Source Reveals The Two People Being Considered As Next APC Party Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday confirmed the resignation of its National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

Deputy National Chairman of the party, Abubakar Kyari, who is now the acting National Chairman, made the announcements to journalists after he chaired a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the APC headquarters in Abuja.

He also confirmed the resignation of the party’s National Secretary Iyiola Omisore, and his subsequent replacement by the deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, in acting capacity.

According to a news that was published by The LEADERSHIP online this morning, it was reported that Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore, left their positions following complaints about lack of accountability and non-inclusive leadership.

A top presidency source under the condition of anonymity told LEADERSHIP last night that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s men were discussing with party critical stakeholders about who becomes the next chairman of the APC.

It was learnt that although some party chieftains are suggesting that the next national chairman should be Christian from the North in order to balance the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the party that produced President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, but others are of the opinion the next chairman should be chosen from among the candidates who stepped down for Adamu last year at the party’s national convention.

It was further gathered that settling for the second option since the same faith controversy was no longer an issue, former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, and Senator Sani Musa from Niger State are being considered as possible replacement for Adamu.

Al-Makura who lost his reelection to the Senate in the 2023 general election was one of the leading candidates in the race for APC national chairmanship position in 2022 until former President Muhammadu Buhari convinced governors on the party’s platform to accept Adamu as the preferred choice.

Another source, a former governor, who also spoke under the condition of anonymity said that, the APC governors, and party leaders, have been meeting on who should lead the party and the permutations so far have been in favour of the National Chairman, returning to Nasarawa State, with former Governor Al-Makura highly favoured in the permutation.
