Checkout Nigerian Celebrities Who Have Been Sentenced To Jail

They remain popular but that didn’t stop them from being on the wrong side of the law for which they paid heavily.

Here are four celebrities who have been sentenced to jail:

OLANREWAJU JAMES:

Princess reported a case of sexual assault of a minor to the Sabo Police Station, Yaba, Lagos State. She told the police that the crime took place at her residence.

The case was transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, for investigation. Baba Ijesha was, thus, arrested on April 22, 2021.

The case attracted public attention from the time of his arraignment on June 24, 2021, until Thursday, July 14, 2022, when Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court delivered judgment on the case.

The judge convicted Baba Ijesha and sentenced him to 16 years in jail. He will, however, only spend five years in jail as the sentences will run concurrently.

IBINABO FIBERESIMA:

The actress in 2009 received a five-year prison term for manslaughter and dangerous driving. She was detained on February 26, 2006, after her vehicle collied with Suraj Giwa’s vehicle on the Lekki-Epe axis. The victim died instantly.

Consequently, the actress was arrested and charged to court for manslaughter and reckless driving. She was convicted and sentenced to five years in jail by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos State High court in 2009. She was later granted bail following an appeal filed by her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina.

However, a Lagos High Court, on March 11, 2016, dismissed Fiberesima’s appeal and upheld her five-year jail term.

UCHE ODOPUTA:

The actor, producer and director were arrested in 2007 by the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for trafficking drugs and subsequently jailed for two years and three weeks.

Odoputa reportedly ingested about 1.336kg of cocaine. He was forced to excrete the drugs by the agency.

Uche said he was open to the drug trafficking offer because he thought he could drastically change his living conditions when he wasn’t getting any substantial movie roles, and when he could not afford to feed or house himself and his family.

He mentioned that although his colleagues abandoned him then for obvious reasons, he doesn’t hold it against them as it was a time for him to learn a lesson.

Uche said his major regret was letting his family down and letting his London friends take advantage of his situation by talking him into the act.

He mentioned that he has never used drugs and the encounter was the first time he saw the item. He also said he is grateful for a second chance and will never travel that route again.

TAIWO AKINWANDE:

The Yoruba actress popularly known as Yetunde Wunmi, was in 2006, was arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), she was arrested on grounds of cocaine trafficking.

The actress was on her way to London when she was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.

She was sentenced to three years imprisonment for which she paid a fine of N1million.
