Chimamanda Adichie Rejects National Award Offered By Buhar

World-renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie rejected the national honours award offered by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, select members of the Nigerian populace were presented with national honours by the President, at an event to commemorate the celebration of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day.

A list of nominees released prior to the ceremony included 473 nominees namely; five grand commander of the order of the Niger (GCON) awards, 54 commander of the order of the federal republic (CFR), 67 commander of the order of the Niger (CON), 64 officer of the order of federal republic (OFR) awards, 101 officer of the order of the Niger (OON) awards, and 75 member of the order of the federal republic (MFR) awards, 56 awards for member of the order of the Niger (MON) and eight federal republic medal (FRM) awards…………………..Continue Reading

 

 

 

According to the presidency, the award was to honour the achievements of nominees in their various fields and capacities.

The names on the nominees’ list were varied as they included celebrities, monarchs, politicians etc.

Awardees included Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

Others on the prestigious list were Ooni of Ife HRM Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Olu of Warri HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, famous musicians including, Burna Boy, Tuface Idibia, Teni etc.
