Presidential Tribunal: Peter Obi, Atiku, Kwankwaso Reportedly Plan Alliance To Take Power From APC

As the presidential election petition tribunal’s judgment draws near, the three leading opposition candidates, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), are reportedly working on an alliance to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to ThisDay report, the conversations between the trio have been ongoing in the background for a while.

It was gathered that the three leaders of the opposition party are looking at the possibility of an alliance which would enable them to present a formidable stand against the ruling APC.

ThisDay newspaper revealed that talks kicked off between Atiku and Kwankwaso and later transcended into a meeting between Obi and other stakeholders of the PDP.

As reported by Arise TV online, it was gathered that the preliminary stage of the meeting between the trio was hinged on three resolutions.

The report confirmed that the three had agreed to wait for the tribunal’s verdict, which would be a determinant to trigger the next phase of the conversation between the three leaders of the opposition party.

This was hinged on the premise that a second phase would ensue if the tribunal’s verdict went south.

Sources privy to the meeting revealed that the opposition leaders were optimistic that the tribunal would be “just and fair” in its verdict to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC.

The source also revealed that these leaders were hopeful that a rerun might ensue, which might likely trigger a merger to wrestle power from the APC and President Tinubu.

The source further confirmed that should the tribunal’s judgement goes in favour of the ruling party, they would need the option to resort to a merger for the 2027 presidential polls.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) has been warned not to give any verdict that will set the country ablaze.

Great Jonathan, the spokesperson of the Diaspora Action for Democracy in Africa (DADA), gave the warning during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, August 17, TheCable reported

Jonathan said all eyes will be on the judiciary because it has all that it takes to save Nigeria from the threat of explosion.

He added that the electorate knows more than the court because they know who they voted for and are waiting for the court because they have respect for the law.
