If I Had My Way, I'd Insist For All Govt Vehicles To Be Assembled In Nigeria – LP Lawmaker, Ireti Kingibe

Amid the ongoing public calls for the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to cut down the cost of governance, Labour Party chieftain and lawmaker, Senator Ireti Kingibe has come out to insist that if she had her way, government-driven vehicles will be assembled in the country to save the ailing economy.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Wednesday night, Kingibe, who represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at the 10th National Assembly, insisted that the government cannot continue to import vehicles and other consumable goods into the country at a time the disparity between the Naira and the Dollar is quite high.

She said; “if I had my way, there are some of the things that I would do to help the country. This is my utopian view of Nigeria and some of those things I can do; one, I would insist that all government vehicles be assembled in the country. This will go a long way in improving productivity in Nigeria. It will also convince car manufacturers into setting up their assembly plants here.

Even commodities like tin tomatoes, and local things should not be imported. Yes, we might have a short period of inconvenience, but those are the things that will help to bring down the Dollar to the Naira, and help to grow our economy.”
