Tribunal: Since We're saying the election was rigged, I expect Supreme Court to order a rerun -James Ezike

James C. Ezike, a lawyer, has expressed doubts about the fairness of the election that resulted in Bola Ahmed Tinubu becoming president. He firmly believes that, given the allegations of fraud, the Supreme Court will mandate a new election to take place.

Ezike asserted electoral fraud during an appearance on “The Morning Show” on Arise Television. Citing examples from other countries, such as Kenya, he proposed that the Supreme Court should order a new election because of the alleged weak foundation for the first one.

Ezike has raised a significant concern regarding the upcoming presidential election scheduled for February 25, 2023. He contends that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially announced that the election results would be electronically transmitted, only to later opt for manual collation instead. This abrupt change, according to Ezike, is viewed as potentially fraudulent, given that political parties had relied on INEC’s assurance of electronic transmission.

Although Ezike is not affiliated with any of the political parties involved, he strongly believes that the Supreme Court should intervene and order a fresh election. This, he believes, would help address worries and suspicions surrounding alleged rigging and irregularities in the electoral process. In his view, the election’s integrity has been compromised, and he draws parallels to similar situations in other countries, such as Kenya, where the courts have ordered fresh elections in response to irregularities.

In summary, Ezike’s assertion is that the presidential election’s sudden shift from electronic to manual collation has cast doubt on its legitimacy, and he calls upon the Supreme Court to order a new election to restore trust and address concerns about the electoral process. This reflects a belief that the election was conducted on shaky grounds and that legal intervention is necessary to rectify the situation.
