Many Nigerian politicians are beginning to declare their interest in contesting for president in 2023. APC chieftain, Bola Tinubu is said to be amongst those contesting for the ticket of the APC in other to challenge other party candidates in the forthcoming presidential election.

Aside from Bola Tinubu, the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi as well as the governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello have both declared interest in contesting under the platform of the APC with the hope of becoming the flag- bearer of the party ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Barely a week after Dave Umahi declared interest in contesting for the top position, a group identified as the association of Ebonyi indigenes have urged the governor to step down due to his style of leadership.

Why Governor Dave Umahi must step down from the presidential race

The association of Ebonyi state on Thursday, revealed that the people of Nigeria would suffer greatly within a week if Dave Umahi is given a chance to rule the country by becoming the next president of Nigeria.

In Ebonyi state, AESID added that the governor failed to live up to expectations as many of his plans were not favorable to the people of the state, and as such, he would not be able to live up to expectations if he is given the privilege to become the president of Nigeria in 2023.

The president of the association, Paschal Oluchukwu said that members of the association were shocked to receive the news that the governor of their state is interested in becoming the president of Nigeria and has declared his ambition.

He, however, asked the governor to list the things he has been able to achieve since he was made governor of Ebonyi state about 7 years ago.

The qualification of Dave Umahi as well as the right to contest

Paschal Oluchukwu added to his point by saying that the governor has the right to contest for any position of his choice since he has the money to do so as well as the qualification required by the constitution.

Despite that, he added that there is nothing good that has been achieved by the governor since he was elected into office.

He said ” Umahi has the constitutional right to contest but the governments failed to secure tiny Ebonyi State. As we speak, thousands who were displaced by communal war in Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state are yet to return to their ancestral homes, needless to speak of receiving any succor whatsoever from the Umahi government. “

How Ebonyi state allegedly became the capital of poverty in Africa

The head of the association of Ebonyi indigenes further added that there is no hope for the youths in the state as they have experienced underdevelopment in the state since the beginning of Umahi’ s administration.

Paschal Oluchukwu said, ” Many of the victims who were also displaced in three communities in Ezza North LGA where he is lavishing public funds in building an International Cargo Airport remain displaced as they are yet to be duly compensated by the Umahi administration. “

” Hunger and poverty have been weaponized by his government such that all might come to beg for crumbs on his table. No wonder Ebonyi is now officially rated the poverty capital of entire Southern Nigeria by the National Bureau of Statistics. “

What might happen if Umahi becomes the president of Nigeria

The head of the association expressed fear over what is currently happening under the administration of Dave Umahi in Ebonyi state which might happen to the people of Nigeria in 2023 if he is given the privilege or opportunity to rule the country.

He added that the national assembly would become useless and lose its essence due to how it would be mismanaged by the governor. He said that ” Looking at the way and manner he has handled the State’ s House of Assembly which is ordinarily a separate arm of government, are we not certain that a National Assembly under an Umahi Presidency would be worse than the current rubber- stamp legislative arm that we have at the moment? “

What changes would be done to the Nigerian sector under Umahi’ s administration

He went ahead to ask what would be the future of Nigerian citizens and the achievement of Dave Umahi if he is given the privileged to lead the country in 2023 and beyond.

He said ” Which impact and mark have Governor Umahi made in Ebonyi’ s critical sectors such as Education- given. We are classified as educationally- less- developed. “

” What about the State’ s Civil service he has left in its shadows, including Lecturers in our State- owned tertiary institutions whose salaries he has withheld and pays any pittance he feels like? Is it the retirees some of who have died in their pains and agonies over non- payment of their due entitlements or their sorrowing relatives that would drum support for Umahi s s touted 2023 Presidential ambition? “

Due to all the factors stated above, the group believes that the governor of Ebonyi state does not deserve to be a president.
