2023 election: EU study claims that Keyamo and Fani-Kayode propagated false information

According to Daily Post reports, The European Union Election Observation Mission has listed a former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Femi Fani-Kayode, for propagating fake news during the 2023 general election in Nigeria.

EU charged Keyamo and Fani-Kayode with distributing false information during the 2023 general elections, deceiving Nigerians.

The EU Observers noted instances in which both APC leaders spread false information while supporting their candidates in their most recent report.

According to the analysis, there was an upsurge in false information in the days before and during the election. False reports were frequently disseminated by well-known figures connected to political parties.

“On February 12, Festus Keyamo from the APC spread rumours about Peter Obi’s bribery that were posted on a dubious website. The claim was swiftly discredited after going popular for a short time.

“On February 11, 2023, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former ation minister and current APC party member, alleged that PDP presidential candidate Abubakar met in private with active-duty military generals in Abuja.

He declared that Atiku wanted to stir up disorder, start a coup d’état, and impose a brand-new, illegitimate regime. Kayode shared this assertion on several social networking sites, and it received a total of 281.2k impressions. The Army refuted rumours of a meeting between its officers and Atiku the following day, he posted.
