2023: APC National Chairman, Abudulahi Adamu Seeks Traditional Rulers’ Support For Free Elections As Osun Monarch Insists On Southern President
The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress(APC) Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has solicited the support and cooperation of traditional rulers for a hitch-free 2023 general elections.

The APC Chairman was in Kebbi State to attend the wedding Fatiha (marriage solomnisation) of two daughters of the present National Organising Secretary of APC, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad-Argungu.
Adamu said: “We are here in Kebbi for a wedding ceremony, but we felt it is necessary to pay homage on you as a father to all to seek royal blessings and at the same time plead for your support and cooperation towards a successful conduct of 2023 general elections.
“As a father and highly respected individual in the society, who is always in contact with his people at all levels, it’s imperative to come and seek for support and cooperation.”
The Chairman appealed to the Emir to use his position to counsel the youth on the need to conduct themselves before, during and after the general elections.
He called on the youth not to be allowed to be used by selfish politicians to cause confusion, advising that: “we should understand that Nigeria belongs to all of us.”
In his reaction, Emir Gwandu,Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar appreciated the national chairman for the visit, advising that politicians should caution their supporters against acts capable of causing violence during the forthcoming elections.
“Election is not a war, it is not a do-or-die affair, so there is a need for politicians to caution their supporters against violence. People should be allowed to vote for whoever they think will take them to the promised land,” he said.
Meanwhile, a traditional ruler in Osun state, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbdurRosheed Akanbi, on Friday has said power must shift to the South of the country in 2023 failure of which he would join other monarchs to rally support for the Yoruba nation.
The monarch in a statement through his chief press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, said the Yoruba nation agitators would be vindicated if power was retained in the North.
He said the Southern candidates should be allowed to compete among themselves, adding that the conventional power shifting was cementing the unity of the nation.
The monarch, who appealed to Northern traditional rulers, notable politicians, and stakeholders, to intervene and support the power shift to the South, recalled how his traditional voice doused the tension of the agitators.
He said Southern candidates were credible and capable to lead the country, noting that “there is no justification for denying them power for the unity of the country.”
“We have a capable and credible candidate from Southern Nigeria vying to be president of Nigeria. The conventional power rotation has contributed immensely to cementing the unity of Nigeria. Retaining the power in the North will spur further agitations likely to question the oneness of Nigeria.
“I’m appealing to Northern traditional rulers and stakeholders to consider the Southern presidency in the interest of fairness, equity, and unity. President Muhammad of Northern extraction has almost completed two terms of years. In fairness, power should return to the South “Retaining power in the North will fuel agitations. We hope some of us who quenched the previous protest will not join should the power remain in the North,” he said.
