Football Players Who Played With Disability

Today, we are going to be looking at some of the football players who have played the game of football with disabilities.

1. Robert Schlienz

Robert Schlienz was a German football player who was born on the 3rd day of February 1924. He played for clubs like FV Zuffenhausen and VFB Stuttgart. However, in August 1948, he was involved in a horrible car accident which resulted in the lost of his forearms being amputated. But that didn’t stop him or made him leave football, rather he went on to play more games against teams like Bayern Munich.

2. Gordon Banks

Banks was an English goalkeeper born on December 30th, 1937, but he was not any Goal as he was widely regarded as one of the greatest football goalkeepers of all time. He was even named FWA Footballer Of The Year in 1972, but unfortunately, he was involved in a car accident that same year which cost him the sight in his right eye. He was 37 years at the time which was pretty old for a player but not for a goalkeeper. As a result, he had to quit football but later made a return five years later as he played his last two seasons in the United States for that Lauderdale striker in 1977 and 1978.

3. Edgar Davids

Davids is a retired Dutch footballer and now a current coach who played for clubs like Ajax, Juventus, and Barcelona. He suffered glaucoma during his playing days at Ajax and had to undergo surgery. But there was only so much surgery could do and seeing as he was not ready to give up football just yet, Doctors creates a special google that can be used and also to avoid injuries.

4. Hector Castro

Castro was an Uruguayan football player and also ended up as a coach. He scored Uruguay’s first-ever goal in the World Cup against Peru at the inaugural FIFA World Cup in the 1930s, a tournament that they’ll later go on to win. He was one of the biggest stars of Uruguay and also went on to win four Copa America.

However, at the age of 30, an electric saw cut his right forearm. Though that wasn’t an obstacle to becoming the star striker of Uruguay and also going on to become a nightmare for opponents.

5. Manuel Francisco Dos Santos

Also known as Garrincha, Manuel was one of the best Brazilians to ever play the game of football. Known to be a skillful dribbler who was born with certain deformities such as a wrapped knee, and also his legs not being of equal length. Despite all this, Garrincha still stands out winning two World Cup trophies. He skillfully dribbled his way to success, confusing not just his opponents but also himself.

6. Alejandro Sanchez Lopez

Lopez was formally a player who played for clubs like Real Zaragoza and Sydney Olympics. He was born with just one arm but that didn’t stop him from becoming a professional footballer as he’s the first-ever person to play professionally with a disability of one arm in the Spanish division. Sanchez was not just making his dreams come true but was also seen as a light and hope for others seeing you can do it only if you just work hard.

7. Petr Cech

The famous former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper was involved in a horrible accident. He was involved in a collision in a match against Readings and suffered a fractured skull. This resulted in him wearing a head guard during matches as a protective measure.
