100 Days in Office: Gov Eno Flags off Mass Housing, Palliative Distribution, Commission Roads

As part of activities marking his 100 Days in Office, Governor Umo Eno on Wednesday performed the groundbreaking for the construction of a mass housing project in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area, commenced the distribution of palliative to citizens, and inaugurated some internal roads constructed by his administration.

Performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of ARISE City Estate in Ibesikpo, a highly endowed suburb of Uyo, the state capital the Governor said the project was conceptualised to provide decent and affordable housing for civil servants with the aim of decongesting the state capital through a decentralised people-centric infrastructure. 

According to the Governor, “Part of the strategic plan we have is to develop those LGAs around Uyo the state capital so that we can open them up for economic growth and reduce traffic in Uyo “. 

“Soon, we will award the contract for the construction of Ring Road III in order to allow our housing estate in Ibiono Ibom LGA to have expression. We are also building something in Nsit Ibom for medical doctors. We want to make sure that we try to meet the housing deficit in this state ” Eno emphasised. 

The Governor, who commended the federal mortgage bank for accepting to partner with the state for the housing project, said the synergy was fostered at the recently held Ibom Dialogue, where the bank promised to finance the housing project if the state government would provide the land. 

“Akwa Ibom workers have contributed to the National Housing Fund regularly but have never benefited. So they have assured us that the houses will be available to buyers at single-digit rates “. 

While acknowledging the construction of the housing project as one that will provide employment opportunities to youths in the area, Eno assured of speedy disbursement of monetary compensation to the host community, which he said will commence in October 2023.

 

Elsewhere in Uyo, Governor Umo Eno inaugurated Ndiya Street and other internal roads within the popular Akpan Andem Market and other roads newly constructed and fitted with solar panel lighting systems. 

  

Eno, who said he was moved to activate the road because of his earlier campaign promises to the people and the crucial economic roles it plays around the market, added that the ongoing remodelling of Itam Industrial Park and the rehabilitation of other markets around the state will be sustained in order make life much better for the people. 

Earlier, Governor Umo Eno flagged off the distribution of palliatives at his country home, Ikot Ekpene Udo in Nsit Ubium LGA, as part of activities to mark his first 100 days in office. 



The state Chief Executive Officer, flagged off the distribution to ameliorate the biting effects of fuel subsidy removal on residents of the State, with an appeal to the Palliative Committee to ensure equitable distribution to each of the 2,272 gazetted villages and other residents of the State, irrespective of party affiliations.
